Tips from the Vets.

Post by Saroc »

As the barony's first Veteran (yay?), i figured i'd share some advice that might be of help while levelling:

TL;DR : Go explore!

Help out!
if you meet someone who is in combat, help them out.
You will get credit for the kills and it's a great way of meeting people.

Hang out at the right places
Hanging out at a skull-and-bones place or an anchor is often rewarding. Someone might pass by, see you there and join you in waiting for the spawn.
Maybe play some music while you wait?

If you're a crafter, don't upgrade the gear.
You will want the upgrade items later on, when they actually make a difference.
And you will find better gear soon enough.
I made myself a couple of blue Ebonthread pieces because they looked pretty, but that's about it.

CE Chests
These chests normally contain three blue items, one white/green and some cash. Go find them. It's fun too!

Treasure chests
Opening these gives you a nice chunk of xp, should you find yourself lacking.
Chests are nodes! Once one is used, the next one spawns immediately.
They come in clusters, like the nodes in WoW, meaning that the next chest is often within sight (i found 10 chests in a row in Aurindon)
There seem to be a lot of chests washed up on the beaches.

Weapon enchants
These are not static bonuses, but triggers every now and then. They also have charges, so keep an eye on them.

Grinder groups
While i personally find these dumb and never really participated in them, they can be useful.
If you're in a public group dungeon, there is probably a bunch of grinders there as well. Following them around might help you complete the quests inside without having to set up a group. Should you partake, go aoe and rake in massive amounts of loot and hefty xp.

Gather 'em all
I gathered everything and advice you to do the same. Might want to consider putting a point in each of the keen eye perks as well.
Especially water (for alchemy) and spices (for cooking) is in short supply and seems to sell well.

Skyshards
This is one part where i actually had help.
I printed out Dulfy's maps and have them close so i can see if there are any shard near where i'm at.
One shard in Coldharbour was inaccesible, but that appear to have been fixed in 1.0.5

Don't buy stuff
Focus on expanding your inventory, you'll need it (i got 100+100 slots before saving up to buy a horse)
Especially if you, like I, go through all the containers you come across.

End of the day, though. Don't worry about the xp. After all, we're not in Azeroth anymore.

Hope this helps!

Great info, Saroc! :thumb I try to do a lot of these, and they sure help! I still have a long ways to go before I make Veteran, though! :(

I'm glad to see that I am already following most of your tips, Sensi. Especially the one about inventory slots. Glad to see I was actually doing the right thing for once.

Don't wait until top level to go to Cyrodiil. I've gone out 4 or 5 times now, and I'm only level 20. Its been a blast.

Even if you're not interested in PvP, it's a good idea to go to Cyrodiil for the quick 4-5 skill points (intro quests and easy skyshards)
