Wizardry Online

The beta for Wizardry Online, an MMO re-imagining of the classic RPG, Wizardry, will begin on October 29. SOE president John Smedley announced the date this evening at the SOELive keynote address.

Wizardry Online is a hardcore MMO spin on the classic dungeon romp gameplay of Wizardry, featuring permadeath, fiendish monsters, and brutal traps.

I thought some people might be interested in this. I'm not in the slightest. I loved the old Wizardry games (especially 6, 7 and 8). But since SirTech closed up shop and the series got shipped to Japan it got all Anime-ified, which isn't something I'm interested in.

I loved Wizardry 8. I never even looked at any other Wizardry games. Wasn't aware that there were others after it.

Depending on how they do this it could be super cool. I am not into the the whole Anime-ified it (is that really a word Talo)

I can't say much about the tone and tenor of the new games (they are all playstation 2/3 releases), but all the graphics Anime styled now and the story is completely different. The only thing it has to do with Wizardry is that they own the license and title.

That is disappointing that someone would do anything with that title that wasn't directly linked to the old wizardry games.

Well, anything for a buck, right? Besides, Talo, most games do look "Anime-ified" now! I don't mind it....as long as "Roxanne" looks cool and hot!

Not sure I like the sound of "Permadeath" Not my idea of a fun game if I get so far only to be killed off and have to start over with a new character from scratch. Also, like was mentioned earlier, the graphics look dated and overdone and it does not seem to have anything at all to do with the original game franchise.
