We have been asked by Phatashenellas (Phats) to leave the city of Greyhawk to meet them for teleportation. When we meet the tower where we are supposed to meet Phats, we find Ybarra, now aged into a young woman. Ybarra wants to bring people together in common cause, maybe for good, very vague.

In the middle of the conversation we are attacked by a sapphire dragon. We survived, kind of.

Phats showed up and teleported us to Shantadern. After much deliberation, Eilo put the urn of Sethucea in her bag of holding, and few to the graveyard where she entered the Coveington tomb. She failed 113 perception checks and left Sethucea's urn.

Session 70 - 5/10/2024 - Chapter 2 - Eilo's Misadventures in Shantadern, SW to the Yeomanry League for the Num Theraz Saragon Piece.

606 CY - Reaping 1st - 11:48PM

Start session as Eilo returns to the party, waiting patiently in the corn field outside Shantadern, from her latest misadventures with the Magistrate, Captain Gallus and Darran the guard. See In-Character Discord for all the fun.

Eilo relates how instead of sneaking back to the party after retrieving the cursed urn containing Sethucea's ashes, she decided to go knock on the door to the crypt and talk to the guards. She then tells the party about her time as "Taffy" the fairy and the other information she gained about the probability that Lord Ryton robbed his family's crypt some time ago and the mention of a "Reliquary" that seemed to be of some import in the Covington mausoleum. She then takes Sethucea's urn, and after enlarging herself, flies up to break the seal high enough that the magic, that would have created undead from nearby corpses, disaapates harmlessly. After returning to the ground, the party discusses what they know about the two remaining unclaimed pieces of the Saragon that lie far to the SW.

The first is held by the Ruby Queen, a massive ancient red dragon with a fortress lair that lies in a volcano near the intersection of the eastern edge of the Sulhaut Mountains and the southwest edge of the Crystalmist Mountains. She is rumored to have an army of followers in the fortress that revere her almost as a god and three adult male red dragon consorts. Phats reveals that the idea of trying to retrieve this piece has even given Sister pause.

The other remaining piece supposedly lies in Num Theraz, ancient capital of the Dwarves and revered as a holy place to all Dwarvenkind.

The party decides to seek out this fragment next and asks Phats to get the group as close to there as possible. Sister's Elven lackey says that the closest he can teleport the group in the region is the small city of Loftwick, a bit smaller than Hardby with maybe a couple of thousand people. The population is mostly human, but there is a sizeable Dwarven enclave that also holds a fair amount of power. The architecture is basically human in design, but also has noticeable Dwarven influence.

Having arrived close to 2AM, the companions camp outside the closed and locked city gates in the safety of Magar's tiny hut. After an uneventful night, the gates are opened very early and the party completes their long rest before entering the town. At the gates, the group notices multiple postings warning travelers to avoid the roads to the north due to hill giant attacks. Once inside, the party sees there are also multiple postings looking to hire adventurers and mercenaries to help hunt down the giants.

The party heads to the Temple of Moradin, assuming it would be their best chance at friendly contacts and information. The temple itself is built into the north wall of the city and melds right into the High Crags, heading under the mountains to the north. After finding an acolyte and making introductions through Koram, the party is given information that Dour passed through here leading a company of Dwarves against the giant incursions. He left a message here for Koram explaining that after talking to his family, he was sent here to take up one of the contracts through the City Garrison to clear giants to the NE through Emberton, North Reach and ultimately into the Iron Wood. He passed through on the 22nd of Flocktime, about 7 weeks ago and has not returned. Koram attempts a Sending to Dour, and although the spell succeeds, there is no response.

The party asks about passing through the underground way to the west beyond Kelzad to Gryphon's Reach, stating that they eventually intend to head further west towards Num Theraz. The acolyte explains that in order to be granted passage into the underground road, a token is needed from the mayor of the Dwarven Enclave or leader of one of the other Dwarven Holds to the west. Generally there is a fee or service required in order to get a token of passage. The party decides to follow Dour's route hoping to both find out what happened to their companion and potentially kill enough giants to be granted a token to access the underground road.

The party heads east along New Road and then north along the trail to Emberton. The party arrives at Emberton about midday of the second day of traveling. Emberton is strictly a refinery and shipping center with minimal amenities. The group speaks to some of the locals and guards that have been added since the giant attacks began several weeks ago. Eventually, they find someone that seems to recognize a description of Dour and spoke to him some five to six weeks prior. They verify he was still headed north towards Iron Wood.

The group then gets back on the road and arrives in North Reach, a fortified mining town, the following day on the 5th of Reaping about 3:30 in the afternoon. The giants have yet to attack the fortified area, but have attacked outlying camps and mine tunnels. The party heads out the next morning towards Iron Wood. Eilo summons a jackal, giant ape and giant weasel from the Bag of Tricks. After traveling a few hours, the party hears loud gruff voices ahead. Magar lets the party know that the voices are speaking in giant, and everyone spreads out preparing to ambush the enemies.

Soon everyone sees a pair of half-giants and three hill giants coming down the road in an area with low rocky ledges to both sides. Eio sends the jackal and giant weasel ahead to attack the hill giant in the center. They cause no damage, but lure all but one of the hill giants, presumably the "smartest", into a tight group eventually smashing the annoying animals. Magar leads with a fireball erupting into the clump of four opponents, which Easeis then learns with Peer into the Void and immediately unloads into the same group or enemies, severely burning them all. Quiro and the the ape advance into the center of the road. Eilo follows with a Rainbow Explosion and the two half giants and two of the hill giants are left and scorched and severely wounded by all the magical explosions. Koram moves up just SE of Quiro and the ape, his toll the dead barely affecting one of the half giants. The first giant that was attacked by the now dead jackal and giant weasel flies into a rage and barrels through the half giants killing one and knocking the other skidding onto his back, alive, but prone. Both Momo and Sprinkles fly past different targets distracting them. Magar fire bolts the hill giant furthest to the north, the already burning giant dropping dead to the ground from the fiery bolt. Quiro charges the unwounded hill giant landing two wicked slashes out of his four swings. Eilo's ape slams its arms at the burned giant that charged Koram, bludgeoning it once. Easeis points and a ray of frost rips into the giant facing Koram, the frost mingling with fire, dropping the enemy dead in its tracks. The hill giant now facing Quiro lands a smashing hit on the dragonborn who lands a small psionic reprisal on his attacker, but it is just enough that the giant's second swing of his tree trunk club misses. Eilo hexes the giant facing Quiro and eldritch blasts, both beams slamming into the giant. The remaining half giant moves west to attack Quiro from his flank, landing two punishing hits and almost knocking the fighter senseless. Koram casts spiritual weapon just south of the hill giant facing Quiro and the glowing warhammer slams the giant square in the face. The cleric then focuses on the half giant and necrotic energy from toll the dead kills the smaller giant kin. Momo flies past the last giant, distracting it as Sprinkles hovers nearby waiting to do the same. Magar's next fire bolt flares just past the giant, missing. Quiro lands two slashes with his crystal blade and adds a psionic strike for good measure, blood spraying as the last enemy falls.

Koram casts cure wounds on Quiro, healing the worst of the dragonborn's injuries. Eilo adds in some healing light and Quiro is looking much better.

The party investigates the giants to see if there are any useful reagents that can be harvested. Koram and Magar manage to load up on giant hair that can be used to make rope and several giant fingernails that can be used in potions of hill giant strength. Easeis loads up the body parts into his bag of holding. The party then prepares to search the area for any loot as the session ends.

End Session 70 as the party finishes harvesting the now deceased hill giants. Still need to search for loot.

606 CY - Reaping 6th - 12:00 PM

Start session as the party is looting the hill giant and half-giant corpses.

The party has managed to find some gold, silver and copper coin on the recently harvested giant corpses. While discussing what to do next, a pair of objects arc in from the somewhere to the east striking both Easeis and Eilo... Dwarven heads! A moment later a half-giant charges in from the east heading for Quiro. Harambe the ape heads for the new opponent. Koram yells to the party that there are more giants further down to the east before casting guiding bolt on the closest half-giant and then sliding down the rocky slope heading east. A second half-giant moves into view throwing a rock at Quiro, missing. Easeis casts Spirit of Death his reaper spirit taking the form of a Manananggal and appearing just west of the half-giant facing Quiro. It immediately haunts and tears into the enemy twice. Quiro follows the spirit's attack with two slashes from his crystal blade. Magar holds a fire bolt on the second half-giant, waiting for his owl to distract it. The enemy targeted by the reaper spirit flinches back in fear of the spirit. Sprinkles and MoMo dive in distracting the two clearly visible enemies. Eilo hits the opponent facing Quiro with one beam of her eldritch blast, the half-giant starting to look a bit worse for wear. A third half-giant appears, also hurling a rock, blasting directly into Quiro, who barely manages to use his psionics to deflect a tiny bit of the crushing impact. Another Dwarven head flies up from the east, clipping a disgusted Eilo. A fourth half-giant charges up slamming its huge club twice at the Dragonborn, but only managing to hit the ground. Harambe the ape slams both its fists into the first half-giant further battering the enemy. Koram's toll the dead on the same opponent finishes it off, the cleric then materializing a spiritual weapon in front of the fourth half giant and smacking it in the face. The second half giant that missed Quiro with its rock throw moves up and attacks Harambe, its first attack landing, not enough to dismiss the summoned ape, but its second hit causes Harambe to vanish. Easeis twin spells chromatic orb at the two closest giants, but both orbs streak past their targets, missing. Reaper spirit shifts its haunt and then rakes its ghostly claws into the giant just hit by the spiritual weapon. Quiro hits the same enemy with one slash and adds a psionic strike to the slash. Magar places a shatter spell perfectly to strike all 3 half giants. Sprinkles and MoMo dive in distracting the two westernmost half giants. Eilo flies SE focusing healing light on Quiro, closing some of his wounds and then drops a rainbow explosion onto the three half giants, radiant colors causing major damage. Unfortunately, all three half giants are still standing after the sparkling lights fade. The half giant furthest to the east steps up and swings its club twice at Quiro, not getting past the fighter's armor. Another Dwarven head flies in hitting Koram. The half giant haunted by the reaper spirit is feared but attacks the spirit anyway, landing one solid hit. Koram's spiritual weapon slams into the NW half giant again dropping it to the ground as the cleric casts toll the dead on the SW enemy, necrotic energy washing over the half giant. The half giant facing Quiro lands a solid hit on the Dragonborn who responds with a telekinetic reprisal. Easeis again twins chromatic orb, the first striking the east giant and the second blasts the southern half giant squarely in the face causing massive damage. The reaper spirit rakes at its haunted opponent twice, both hits landing. Magar flinches as another Dwarven head sails in and slams into him. Quiro lines up and unleashes his force breath weapon into the two remaining half giants, the southern enemy dropping from the force damage. Quiro turns and swings his crystal longsword into the half giant to his east, cutting it down, then uses a bit of psionic energy to leap SE towards the sounds of additional enemies. Magar moves west a bit and circles around behind a tree trunk for cover while looking east for additional targets. Sprinkles moves SE looking for its next dive bomb victim. MoMo flies up and hides in the tree near Magar. Eilo flies up to about 45' searching to the east and spots additional hill giants. One of the new hill giants moves up on Quiro, swinging its tree trunk club twice shaking the ground next to the fighter. A second hill giant appears, climbing up the ledges to the east, heading for Koram. The cleric moves his spiritual weapon up behind the giant and smacks it in the back of the head. Koram steps back west a few feet and casts guardian of faith, a glowing hammer and shield appear between the Dwarf and giant. Easeis twins vortex warp, grabbing Quiro and moving him up near Koram, before shifting Magar up on a ledge to the west. The reaper spirit haunts the hill giant east of Koram, landing one raking strike on the target. Quiro holds his attack, waiting for the approaching enemy. Magar casts wall of fire cutting a line of flames north to south, blocking the giants from coming closer and burning the giant directly east of Koram. Sprinkles dives at the burned giant and MoMo swoops in on the giant to the NE. Eilo flies up over the wall of fire and eldritch blasts the giant in front of the wall, Grasp of Hadar pulling the giant off its feet and it falls prone. The fairy then sends a bit of healing light at Quiro. A third hill giant appears and charges in from the south around the wall of fire and circles north towards Koram and Quiro. The prone giant in front of the fire wall stands and strides away to the NE. The Guardian hits the giant approaching from the south, then Koram follows with a guiding bolt and strike from his spiritual weapon. Easeis moves up and casts blindness on the giant south of Quiro. The reaper spirit haunts and strikes the closest giant as Easeis lands a ray of frost. Quiro focuses and recovers a bit of psionic power before striking the giant facing him and adding a psionic strike. Magar lands a blazing fireball on the two westernmost giants and Easeis learns the spell with peer into the weave. Sprinkles dives at the giant that stepped away from the wall of fire and MoMo distracts the giant that moved up close to Easeis from the NE. Eilo flies SE and eldritch blasts the southern giant, killing it, her second beam hitting the giant facing Easeis and Grasp of Hadar pulls the enemy away from the sorcerer. The giant is pulled closer to Koram and the Guardian of Faith hits the stumbling enemy. The hill giant to the NE that moved away from the wall of fire circles back around it towards Koram. The Dwarf hits the first giant that approached him with his spiritual weapon and toll the dead, but the enemy is left standing. Easeis holds hypnotic pattern while waiting for the giant furthest to the NE to move closer. The giant that was just pulled to the north of Koram smashes the cleric twice with his tree trunk, Quiro using a psionic deflection to block some of the second strike's damage. The eastern giant advances and Easeis casts his hypnotic pattern, but only the giant that just hit Koram is affected. Quiro uses his psionics to bolster his leap and lands in front of the giants circling north trying to get at Easeis. The Dragonborn swings his crystal blade twice, but both attacks miss. The giant to the NE throws another Dwarven head and strikes Easeis. Magar perfectly places a sculpted fireball to strike all three giants, but non of his companions, the enemies all left smoking but still in the fight. Sprinkles flies past the NE giant and MoMo distracts the giant facing Koram. Eilo eldritch blasts the NE giant with both beams landing and Grasp of Hadar pulls the enemy into the wall of fire. The warlock then sends a bit of healing light to Koram. The hill giant on Quiro swings its tree trunk at the fighter, missing with the first attack, but windmilling a second swing directly into the dragonborn in a crushing blow. Koram's spirit weapon smacks the giant in front of him and then the cleric casts a guiding bolt that strikes the giant perfectly, the radiant energy blasting the giant off its feet, dead. The last giant standing looks around and then begins to run away to the east pulling a horn from its belt and blowing a loud echoing blast into the air. Quiro moves up next to Koram. Magar uses the long range of his fire bolt to scorch the retreating giant's back, but it manages to keep running. Sprinkles zips away to the east passing right by the giant intending to circle back and distract it. Eilo misty steps east and then flies as far as she can before unloading two beams from her eldritch blast at the fleeing opponent. Both beams hit and Grasp of Hadar pulls the giant back a couple of steps, but it is still struggling to escape. Koram casts guiding bolt and strikes the giant as well, but it stubbornly stays up. Eases moves east 30', still out of range of his single target spells. He grudgingly casts a fireball at the single running enemy, torching the hill giant in its tracks.

End Session 71 as the party catches their breath after fighting the second wave of hill giants and half-giants.
